Manners Towards Non-Muslims

Islam instructs us to treat each other with respect and kindness, and the same applies to non-Muslims as well.
“Allah does not forbid you from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes - from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly. Allah only forbids you from those who fight you because of religion and expel you from your homes and aid in your expulsion - [forbids] that you make allies of them. And whoever makes allies of them, then it is those who are the wrongdoers.” [Al-Mumtahanah, 8-9]
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was the first to act on these teachings. Even the non-believers of Makkah who treated Prophet Muhammad with disdain and caused him to immigrate travel to Medina were forgiven by him when he subsequently conquered Makkah.
Being tolerant towards other Abrahamic religions in Medina, Prophet Muhammad is known to have treated Christians with respect and mercy. He drew up a charter granting protection and other privileges to the Christian and Jewish minorities, promising punishments to those who disobey the dictates set in the Charter. The document was given to the Christian monks of Saint Catherine's Monastery.
Islam also dictated that no Church or synagogue should ever be torn down or destroyed, ensuring that places of worship for non-Muslims remain untouched.
Following Prophet Muhammad’s example would ensure that peaceful people of all religions can live together in harmony, with no fear of injustice. Islam is truly the religion of justice.
